Why I Teach One of my greatest passions in life is teaching! I began officially teaching in 2011. I taught third grade for four years, fifth grade for two years, and now I'm teaching sixth grade English! Over the years, I have found that I actually end up being the one to learn in our classroom—young students are wonderful people who bring knowledge and perspective to our learning environment. Back when I was in elementary school, I struggled and "fell through the cracks." This gave me even more of a desire to help every student progress, whether they need extra help or need a challenge! Differentiation is key in my classroom. Each individual has more potential than they realize, so I have high expectations for my students.
Who Am I Outside of Teaching? I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and learned to say my first words in a southern accent. I eventually lost that accent when we moved to Utah. In 2006, I landed in Idaho, and have been here ever since. If I’m not teaching, I’m spending time with my husband and two children. We enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing, snowshoeing, and anything else that gets us outdoors. I also have a love of the arts and I play the violin in the Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra. I have traveled various places in the world, and hope to travel again someday to experience more of the unique and fascinating cultures that make our world so great.
